MacKerricher State Park Tide Pool Field Trip

April 30th, 2024

Sherwood School is taking a fun and educational trip to view the tide pools at MacKerricher State Park in Fort Bragg. MacKerricher State Park offers a variety of habitats that we will explore; beach, bluff, headland, dune, forest and wetland. Tide pools are along the shore and we will be guided by a trained state park ranger. We will also visit the seal viewing platform where seals may be seen on the rocks off the park's coastline. More than 90 species of birds visit or live near Cleone Lake, a former tidal lagoon. During winter and spring, the nearby headland provides a good lookout for whale watching.

This field trip requires extra parent chaperones since we will be near the water and will need a ratio of one adult per three students. Please consider joining us!

There will be no regular morning or afternoon bus service. All students will need to be dropped off at the Willits City Park by 8:15 a.m. Students will need to by picked up from the Willits City Park no later than 2:30 p.m.

Please send your student with a bagged lunch and snack. We will be having a picnic at the beach. School bagged lunches are available upon request.

Student will need to wear warm clothes and good walking shoes!
